The boys head for Survival Island
After two more action packed days
Wednesday September 21st 2016
The boys are out on Survival Island this evening. It is the culmination of all their efforts this week and a chance to be totally independent, making their own decisions and judgments to survive together overnight.
The forecast seems good for them, perhaps the odd shower but otherwise dry with a good breeze.
Yesterday was a beautiful day with blue sky and sunshine whilst the boys rock climbed and abseiled and then orienteered on the high ground above the Adventure School.
Earlier today the boys finished the final part of their survival skills training by looking at shelter building with small bivvy sheets, tarps and old yacht sails, making the most of terrain features and working out some ideas for what they might sleep under on the island.
After an early lunch we headed out in boats to pull up the lobster creels that Rebecca had set earlier in the week, using mackerel that the boys had caught as bait. We stopped then at Ardmore to see the Atlantic rowing boat that Rebecca’s father, John, had used in his epic voyage 50 years ago. Lots of interesting questions from the team.
And then, after a quick cup of tea and a slice of cake it was off to the island.
