Highfield team arrive in the far northwest

Sunday July 7th 2019

The Highfield team arrived at the road end at about 6pm, after a short delay to their flight. Together we moved the hold bags from the coach to our 4x4 and trailer and then the boys and girls set off on foot in their four teams with their instructors. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the road end to the Adventure School, along a footpath that brings you down to the seashore and along the edge of Loch A Chadh Fi.

Once dorms had been found we sat down for supper. Macaroni cheese with a couple of different salads followed by a slice of homemade chocolate cake.

After supper the teams donned their walking boots and we set off to climb to a high point on the hills above the Adventure School where the boys and girls can get a 360 degree view of all the places that we will explore together over the coming week. The mountains of Foinaven, Arkle and Ben Stack to the east, Ardmore, Survival Island and the Atlantic to the west. A beautiful sunny evening.

Tomorrow morning we’ll be up at 7am for a run or swim and then we’ll have some teams sea kayaking, others rock climbing and abseiling, and all teams will look at the fire and food elements of the survival skills that will be needed on the island later in the week.

All are well and settling in for what will be a busy week.

More news to follow in the coming days, usually posted late in the evening or early the following morning.
