Your chance to enjoy what your children have experienced here at Ardmore!
Saturday 16th to Thursday 21st September 2017
£699 per person
Your child has come here to Ardmore with their school or on a summer camp, you’ve heard the stories of climbing the mountains, catching lobsters and surviving on the island... now you can have the same experience with your friends and other like-minded adults, whose children have also come here.
Climb a mountain from a wild base camp, sea kayak on the sheltered waters of Loch A-Chadh-Fi and Loch Laxford with its coves and bays, light a fire with striking flints and forage for wild foods around the seashore, rock climb and abseil on an ancient rocky outcrop, go sea fishing and lift creels for crabs and lobsters, run or swim (if you wish) before breakfast, visit Ardmore to see the 1966 Atlantic rowing boat, 1992 Cape Horn sea kayaks and English Rose VI, walk on the golden sands of a west-coast beach and ‘survive’ like your children have done, overnight on an uninhabited island.
It’s a beautiful month; the hillsides are turning from shades of green to orange and browns, lower sun in the sky enhancing the colours, the sea is at its warmest and there is usually a natural bounty with mackerel filling the waters around Loch Laxford and often phosphoresce at night.
For parents with children at boarding senior schools, the chosen dates will get you back home in time for the first exeat weekend of the autumn term.
The Adventure School
Stay in comfort in our Norwegian-style wooden long building just yards from the sea loch, enjoy delicious home cooking including three course evening meals making use of seasonal produce from our local area, relax around the wood burning stove after the day’s adventures, sharing stories with friends old and new, and spend the week away from the digital trappings of modern life. It’s good for the soul!
We’ll aim to do much of what your children do when they are here with us, but with an adult slant, retaining the fun and adventure but with plenty of opportunity to relax and take in the surroundings.
A note on phone and internet connectivity at the Adventure School
We don’t have mobile phone reception or Wifi at the Adventure School. For many this is a joy, but we do appreciate for others it may be essential. Mobile phone signal can be gained within a few hundred metres of the Adventure School if you need, limited GPRS and 3G from high ground depending on your provider, and any emergency or essential email or phone communication can always be relayed via Rebecca.
What do you need to do?
Form a group of five or more (parents from the same school would be ideal but not essential). One of you will become the co-ordinator of that groups booking and be the point of contact. Call or email Rebecca to find out more and to book.
We can help you with travel arrangements from Inverness Airport or train station to Ardmore. The journey time from Inverness is approximately 2 hours and Inverness is well served with low cost flights from most domestic airports, and an overnight sleeper train service from London Euston.
For years, parents of children coming with schools and on summer camps have said that they wished they were coming to Ardmore, and now they can!
